"Prior to constructing a sketchbook I determine the intention for the book, usually a question or idea I want to explore, and consider how the process of creating the book will contribute to this intention. I begin by gathering several large sheets paper, 90lb Rives or Arches, and work on the surface in pencil for several weeks. I then tear down and fold the pages into signatures and bind the signatures into a sketchbook. Over the period of several months to a year, I work through this sketchbook using ink, pencil, and crayon."
